Vintage Sterling Silver Candlesticks. These beautiful, impressive candlesticks are made from sterling silver although they are filled to the stems (to provide form) and have wooden inserts to the bases. They are of slender baluster form with knops that are decorated with scrolls. The circular bases are decorated with a band of scrolling foliage. The removable sconces will accommodate candlesticks measuring up to 1.9cm (0.75) in diameter. They are hallmarked to the bases for Birmingham 1970 with the makers mark of Broadway & Co. The sconces share the same marks showing they are original to the sticks. These candlesticks are in beautiful condition with no dents or bruises, they stand nice and vertical and the decorative work is very crisp. There is a small area of scratching to the top of one sconce which isnt highly noticeable and a few pinhead dints around the edges of the bases. On both sticks, where the stems join the bases, there are slightly raised curved creases although theyre not highly noticeable (please see the photos below). Because they are the same on both sticks and there is no other damage to the sticks, I believe that these were caused during the pressing of the silver in the manufacturing process. The wood to the bases is in very good condition with no cracks and there are just a few small white spots of silver polish staining to mention.
