Here we have a pretty clock with two candlesticks. The clock has what I think is a maker’s mark of “LD”, and is also marked “Brevete SGDG”, which means “patent without government guarantees”. It is marked Paris, so that’s possibly where the clock was made. The clock is working well, with the movement making a lovely soft ticking noise. It keeps good time. The minute-hand has been repaired at some time in its life. The base of the clock is made of pieces of stone that are glued together, not solid stone. I assume that this would have been done to keep costs down. That said, it might well be marble. The gold metal of the candlesticks I believe to be gilded or painted bronze; it might be that the candlesticks are old enough for the coating to be ormolu, but I couldn’t say. The candlesticks have had a hard life, and both have been repaired, possibly multiple times. The lower piece of stone has been repaired on one of the candlesticks, and there are breaks in the metalwork on both, though only one of these breaks is presently broken; the other breaks having been repaired. I have tried to show the damage in the photos. If I get my asking price I will deliver the set myself to an address within 100 miles of Ross-on-Wye. For distances over 100 miles I will charge 25p per mile.
