1621 Silver Corinthian Candlesticks. A pair of mid 20th century silver candlesticks with Birmingham hallmark for 1958. They are tall with reeded columns and have corinthian capitals, the drip pans are removable for easier cleaning. The makers stamp is AS for Alexander Smith of Birmingham. Interestingly these candlesticks have Hebrew inscriptions around the bases, and these were perhaps used for Shabbat, although the design and form are not specifically traditional Jewish. Nice to have the extra bit of history though and to know they have been cherished for over 70 years. The bases have felt coverings which look like they are probably original and as always they have weighted bases to keep them stable in use. Good showy examples with nice height and the desirable corinthian capitals and reeding. Inscriptions to the bases. There are numerous small knocks and indents around the bases and lower sections of the columns, this is reflected in the price.
