PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING. Here we have a stunning pair of “novelty” candlesticks. I have seen similar listed as 19th century, “Franco-Prussian Caricature candlesticks”. I do not believe these to be late 19th century, (but I could be wrong) nor do I believe they are “new”. These are made of metal, I would think it is spelter and it has a black painted finish. The underneath has a black felt/baise, which doesn’t appear to have a great deal of age. I feel these are 1920’s to 1950’s in date but I simply do not know. Please look at the photos to see what you are purchasing. They are really quirky, the images of the soldiers and their expressions are wonderful, and well cast. They would look great either side of a mantelpiece or as a table centrepiece focal point. Each candlestick measures approximately 13.5 inches by 4.25 inches. Combined weight 2.25kgs.
