Pair of Irish Sterling Silver Candlesticks – Vintage 1970. These vintage Elizabeth II Irish cast sterling silver candlesticks have been crafted in the George III style. Each candlestick has a baluster shaped form with a knopped stem onto a stepped, shaped incurved base. Each urn shaped capital is encircled with a band of chased leaf decoration to the lower portion and a floral motif decorated border to the upper rim. These fine candlesticks retain the original hallmarked detachable sconces with incurved scroll and leaf decorated rims, accented with four shell motifs. The knopped stem is embellished with further leaf and shell decoration, accented with chased decorated grotesque masks to the lower knop. The stepped bases of these vintage silver candlesticks are embellished with four individual cast grotesque masks, one to each corner. The bases are not weighted and features both the full and import hallmarks. These exceptional, Georgian style Irish candlesticks were crafted in Dublin by Royal Irish Silver Co and imported to Sheffield, England by Sheffield Assay Office, in 1969. These vintage sterling silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each candlestick and part hallmarks struck to each sconce are all very clear.
